  7. Daniel C. Lynch, 52, is Chairman and founder of Interop Company since
  8. 1985 which is now a division of Ziff-Davis Conference and Exhibition
  9. Company in Foster City, California.  A member of ACM and IEEE, a
  10. former member of the IAB and is active in computer networking with a
  11. primary focus in promoting the understanding of network operational
  12. behavior.  The annual NetWorld(r) + INTEROP(r) conference and
  13. exhibition is the major vehicle for his efforts.  Lynch is also a
  14. member of the Board of Trustees of the Santa Fe Institute, the
  15. Bionomics Institute and the ISODE Consortium.

  17. As the director of Information Processing Division for the Information Sciences
  18. Institute in Marina del Rey (USC-ISI) Lynch led the Arpanet team that made the
  19. transition from the original NCP protocols to the current TCP/IP based
  20. protocols.  Lynch directed this effort with 75 people from 1980 until 1983.

  22. He was Director of Computing Facilities at SRI International in the late 70's
  23. serving the computing needs of over 3,000 employees.  He formerly served as
  24. manager of the computing laboratory for the Artificial Intelligence Center at
  25. SRI which conducts research in robotics, vision, speech understanding, theorem
  26. proving and distributed databases.  While at SRI he performed initial debugging
  27. of the TCP/IP protocols in conjunction with BBN.

  29. Lynch has been active in computer networking since 1973.  Prior to that he
  30. developed real-time software for missile decoy detection for the USAF.  He
  31. received undergraduate training in mathematics and philosophy from Loyola
  32. Marymount University of Los Angeles and obtained a Master's Degree in
  33. mathematics from UCLA in 1965.

  36. The purpose of the Internet Society is to nurture the technical developments
  37. for the Internet and to spread the utilization of the Internet to every corner
  38. of the Universe.  Having been a very active force in the commercialization of
  39. Internet technologies that are being used by organizations internally, it pains
  40. me to see how little those organizations are using the huge cross-connect
  41. capabilities of the Internet itself.  The main reason is a lack of security and
  42. reliability.  I want to promote the rapid development and fielding of new
  43. technologies and services to make the Internet a safe place to be.

  45. The Internet Society itself has far too few actual members.  If selected as a
  46. trustee I will devote energy to examining the purpose of membership, the
  47. benefits that members enjoy and the needs of the Society for a broad based
  48. membership.
